In early 2021, the California Energy Commission awarded USD 2 million in grants to 10 Native American tribes. These grants aim to support climate and energy planning efforts in tribal lands and communities, including the development of renewable resources, microgrids, and energy storage systems. The Department of Energy (DOE) has also invested about USD 16 million in tribal renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in California between 2010 en 2021. The construction phase of these projects often requires long hours of operation, creating a demand for rental generators in the U.S. power rental market.

In April 2022, the Washington State Building Code Council approved a new regulation (WSR 22-02-076) that restricts the use of natural gas in new commercial buildings. Instead, electrically powered appliances and HVAC equipment must be used. This regulation will be strictly enforced from July 1, 2023.

The Climate Mobilization Act of 2019 in New York City aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions by implementing various climate laws. One of the key provisions of this act is a law that regulates greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. Starting in 2024, all new buildings in New York City must be powered by electricity, phasing out the use of fossil fuels.

The U.S. government has also planned to improve the nation’s infrastructure through the Rural program. This program will invest nearly USD 2 billion by 2026 in projects aimed at enhancing highways, bridges, tunnels, and overall highway safety. It will also improve access to agricultural, commercial, energy, or freight facilities that support the economy and provide flexible transportation services to rural and tribal regions. Daarbenewens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) will provide USD 285 million in grants and loans for 844 projects in 46 states. These projects will help farmers acquire and install solar arrays and adopt more energy-efficient farm equipment.

In November 2021, the U.S. government signed into law a USD 1.2 trillion infrastructure plan, with a significant portion allocated for broadband, utilities, and broadband expansion. The legislation also includes funding for bridge and road improvements, as well as investments in passenger and freight rail, including potential upgrades to Amtrak.

APR Electricity Ltd., a subsidiary of Atlas Corp., will supply the Imperial Irrigation District of California with approximately 75 MW of backup energy in 2022. This extension follows APR’s successful provision of services to IID in 2021. The fast-track power solutions offered by APR help IID maintain frequency and provide backup capacity within its service zone, encompassing Imperial County and parts of Riverside and San Diego counties.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has opened a funding opportunity through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant program. This program will provide USD 1.5 billion in grants for various projects in 2023 that have significant local or regional impact. In 2022, RAISE funded 166 projects across all 50 states.

The Loan Programs Office of the Department of Energy is accepting applications for USD 5 billion in loan guarantees to support transmission projects owned by government-recognized tribal nations or Alaska Native Corporations. These projects include high-voltage current systems, transmission for offshore wind, and facilities along rail and highway routes.

Cummins introduced the C1000D6RE in July 2022, a rental power solution suitable for various large-scale sectors such as construction sites, emergency power, large-scale events, industrial buildings, and utilities in both rural and urban areas.

The Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity launched the Digitizing Utilities Prize, offering USD 1.1 million to drive the transformation of digital systems in the energy sector through data analytics, processing, quality assurance, storage, and deletion.

Lincoln Electric launched the Frontier 400X welder generator, equipped with advanced diesel engines, providing 11 kW of power for critical sites and 400 amps of welding output for high amperage applications. These generators are available as open or closed units, with optional sound-attenuated enclosures designed by Kohler. The enclosures meet hurricane ratings and comply with the Florida Building Code for wind load and projectile impact.

Compliance standards organizations, including the National Fire Protection Association, the American National Standards Institute/National Electrical Testing Association, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, impose mandates for load testing.

The use of diesel fuel is highly preferred and extensively adopted in the market due to its exceptional reliability. gevolglik, the diesel segment is projected to experience the highest incremental growth opportunity in the coming years.

The segment encompassing power generators with a capacity above 1,000 KVA remains dominant and offers the highest potential for incremental growth. This can be attributed to the increasing demand for uninterrupted power supply in sectors such as industrial mining, manufacturing, oil & gas, and petroleum refining. These industries require a substantial amount of power, hence driving the growth potential of the above 1,000 KVA segment.

Generators hold a significant share in the market, primarily due to the growing dependence on electricity and the ongoing transition towards cleaner energy sources. This has resulted in a heightened demand for backup power generators. During the forecast period, the generator segment is expected to witness the highest incremental growth opportunity, as power outages caused by unpredictable weather patterns across the United States continue to surge.

The construction sector is anticipated to present significant incremental opportunities, largely due to various infrastructure projects in the pipeline led by the federal government.

The continuous power rental segment is poised for substantial growth, fueled by the increasing demand for power generation equipment in industrial applications. This segment is expected to exhibit the highest incremental growth compared to other segments. The persistent need to meet power demand and address supply issues has stimulated the expansion of this segment.
